Networking Tips From your Apartments in Medical Center

  |     |   Uncategorized

What kind of resolutions have you made for 2019? A lot of residents of our apartments in Medical Center have resolved to go to the gym more, or cook for themselves more often. Those goals are great, but we’d like to take a moment to talk about some career-oriented resolutions. Maybe some of you out there have decided to finally start applying to new jobs, or to go for that promotion that you’ve been longing for. If any of you have resolved to expand your professional network in 2019, you’ll love this week’s blog.

Below, we’ll be telling you about some ways that you can expand your professional network in 2019. If you follow this advice, you should have no trouble meeting more people who can help you with your career goals.

Let’s get right to the list of tips, shall we? When you finish reading through this week’s blog post, we encourage you to send the link to this page to your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments near Medical Center.

Be a listener.

We’re not trying to tell you that you aren't interesting. We’re just reminding you that people love to talk about themselves. If you let the other person talk more than you do, you’ll probably leave them with a good feeling about the interaction. In the end, that should be your overall goal. One thing that people often forget about networking is that it’s about learning as much as it’s about connecting. The only way to learn is to listen more than you talk, so keep that in mind next time you’re at a networking event!

Always follow up.

Making connections is all about building momentum, which is why it’s so important that you follow up with people. Don’t wait until you have a reason to reach out to the person. Instead, send them an email or text a few days after the initial conversation. See if they want to meet for something casual, like coffee. If that seems too forward, send them some follow-up questions in the email. The point of following up is to keep the momentum going, and you risk losing that momentum if you wait too long to follow up.
