If you’re like most residents of our apartments on Almeda Rd., you’re probably starting to notice that life only gets busier as you get older. We often imagine that life will calm down once we’re done with college, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Instead, classes give way to full-time jobs, and extracurricular activities turn into household chores and family responsibilities. Everyone has a lot going on these days, which it’s why it’s more important than ever to draw a line between your work life and the rest of your life.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to dedicate this week’s blog to the idea of work-life balance. You’ve probably heard this term 1000 times before, but have you ever really considered how it affects your day to day life? It’s not just about when you leave the office. Work-life balance also has to do with how often you think about your job after you’ve arrived back at your home for the evening. We’ll talk about that and more in the blog post below!
Let’s get right to it, shall we? Oh, and when you’re done reading through the post below, please be sure to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments near Medical Center!
Put a barrier between work life and home life.
We’re not talking about putting up a physical wall that prevents you from going to work, but some people out there might need that if they’re going into the office on weekends. No, we’re talking about an activity that gets your mind away from work and allows you to refocus on the rest of your life. Going to the gym is a good option, as is meditation, a walk with the dogs or a long shower or bath. Whatever you decide to do, be sure to do it right after you get home, thereby putting an end to your workday.
Put the laptop away.
A lot of people use laptops at work then bring them home afterwards. This can obviously be a problem when it comes to keeping your work at work. We recommend having a place for your laptop near the door. When you come home, put the laptop there and keep it there. If you need to use the internet at home, try to use another device like a mobile phone or tablet.
Set up after work events.
The more obligations you have right after work, the more likely you’ll be to actually leave the office on time. A few examples include things like workout classes, dinner dates or happy hours with friends.
