Your favorite community of apartments in Medical Center is back with another brand new blog post for our residents! This week’s post is all about day trips near Houston, so we hope you’re able to find some free time to get out of town in the near future. We love day trips because they’re an inexpensive way to feel like you’re on vacation without taking days off or spending a fortune on airline tickets.
We’ve put together a list of awesome day trip destinations that are within a few hours of Houston. Whether you want to go down to a small town or visit the Gulf Coast for a spell, you’ll find your ideal destination on this list! Texas is filled with amazing day trip destinations, and we’re happy to share some of our favorite with you in the post below.
Without further delay, let’s dive right into this week’s blog. When you’re done with it, please be sure to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments near Medical Center.
Whether you’re a big fan of fishing or you just want to try something new, check out Village Creek State Park next time the weather dips below 90 degrees. If that ever happens, this park is a great place to go for an afternoon of free fishing, canoeing and swimming. The park has free fishing gear rentals, and you don’t even need a license to fish in the creek!
If you’re willing to drive down to Galveston County, you’ll be rewarded with a lovely afternoon in Texas City. This small but beautiful town is home to the City Dike levee, an insanely long strip of rock and concrete that stretches way out into the Gulf of Mexico. You can walk out there to fish, snap photos of the sunset, or watch the big shrimp boats come in. Texas City is more than just a giant levee, though; you can also explore historic homes and museums that explain the history of this town that was one of the first Anglo-American settlements in the region.
If you’ve lived in Houston for more than a year and haven’t seen an alligator, it’s time to change that. Not only is the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge a great place to see gators, but it’s also filled with tons of different bird species and you might see the occasional bobcat if you’re lucky. You can explore this Gulf Coast wildlife refuge by hiking through it or hopping in a kayak and paddling along the shore. Either way, you’re bound to spot an animal or plant species you've never seen before.
